Dreaming Marcos to Becoming Software Engineer: My Journey of Growth and Resilience — Kabir Narayan Jha
When I didn’t achieve my goal of becoming a Marcos Officer and decided to leave the merchant navy, I began searching for a new path that could help me grow. That’s when I turned towards software development. I quickly discovered a passion for coding and programming and started gaining experience by working with different domains and startups during my college years.
After acquiring a range of skills, I was fortunate enough to land an opportunity at one of the world’s top IT companies, Capgemini. I underwent further training in software development in Bangalore. During this time, I was filled with doubts, wondering how I would compete with peers from Pune, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The thought of not being selected for the program often scared me. I also worried about being assigned to a location far from home, like Chennai.
Despite my fears, I was eventually placed in Mumbai and Pune based on business requirements. As I gained real-world experience, I received seven offer letters from prestigious companies such as FIS, Cognizant, TCS, Infosys, Accenture, and more. I ultimately chose to join FIS because of its proximity to my home and its work culture.
This journey taught me a valuable lesson:
“Life is like a bird. There is always a fear of falling the first time you take flight. But once you start flying, you’ll never want to walk again.”
