The True Meaning of Success: Clarity and Control — Kabir Narayan Jha
Today, I had an amazing discussion with my friend Vishal. He brought up an interesting topic: What is success? At first, I didn’t think it was relevant to me, but as he shared his thoughts, I started to reflect on it more deeply.
Vishal’s view of success seemed tied to money and power, which often pulls people into circles of politics or even shady dealings. But I began thinking about what real success means to me. In my opinion, it’s all about having clear expectations of yourself and knowing exactly what you want.
For example, if I want to buy a phone, that phone itself should be part of my success. But often, we focus on making more money to get the phone, which leads to a cycle of wanting more — like accessories or upgrades. For me, success means knowing when to stop. If my goal is to buy a phone, then it should just be about the phone, nothing more. Otherwise, my mind will push me to chase unnecessary things, making me lose control over my desires.
Clear expectations don’t just apply to objects but also to the process of achieving them. You need to assess your abilities, understand the risks, and plan accordingly. If your goals exceed your limits, it becomes a trap.
When you set clear expectations, you see the real value of things, control your desires, and stay focused. You’ll also notice when your mind starts becoming greedy or leading you off track. With clarity, you find peace of mind, avoid being influenced by others, and live without ego, greed, or lust. That, to me, is true success — living a happy life with whatever resources you have, guided by a clear understanding of what you really want.
